Melanie Layton is the spitfire daughter of Trent Robbins, and the half sister of Max Brady.   She just found out that she is the biological child of Daniel Jonas and Carly Manning.  She's a party girl who keeps a video blog bragging about her glamorous life. Melanie spent most of her younger years in boarding schools in Europe. When Max learned she existed, he tracked her down in Marseilles, France. Initially, the brother and sister didn't hit it off so well, as her con ended up getting Max and Stephanie thrown in jail. Eventually, Melanie and Max mended fences, but Stephanie was less than thrilled with the girl. With Trent's gambling debts mounting up, Melanie agreed to help her father by meeting with the French man, Claude, who was threatening Trent. Claude tried to attack Melanie, but Nick and Max arrived on the scene and saved her. Nick was shot in the process, and as he recuperated in the hospital, Melanie thanked him with a passionate kiss.

After Claude's arrest, Melanie decided to go to Salem, hell bent on confronting Trent for putting her in a dangerous situation and for hiding Max from her
