Lexie Carver
Lexie Carver is a former policewoman and was also a member of the medical staff at University Hospital. She switched her career to medicine after being kicked off the police force because of her involvement with the cover-up of Jonah Carver, a vigilante crime fighter called the Pacifier. Her expulsion from the police force initially created waves in her marriage to Abe Carver, but the couple's love survived that challenge.
Until recently, Lexie was unaware of her biological parents. She was raised in an orphanage and adopted by the Brooks family, who died in a tragic accident. Her "Aunt Frankie" took custody of Lexie and supported her throughout her adolescent years. When she began to investigate her past, she was shocked to learn that "Aunt Frankie" was actually her biological mother. What's more, her mother's real name was Celeste Perault, Stefano DiMera's longtime companion! Abe was stunned when he learned that he was married to the daughter of his arch nemesis. Although their marriage remained unshaken for a time, Lexie was often torn between her inherent love for her father and her loyalty to her husband.
When she began to investigate her past, she was shocked to learn that "Aunt Frankie" was actually her biological mother.
After several unsuccessful attempts at conceiving a child, Lexie finally convinced Abe to consider adoption. They adopted baby Isaac, assuming he was the child of Stefano's alcoholic niece, Marlo. It turned out that the baby was switched with Hope's at the hospital, all as part of one of Stefano's evil schemes. Lexie did everything in her power to keep the baby switch secret, going so far as to try to turn Hope back into Gina at an elaborately-planned "Mother of the Year" party. She also had to deal with the blackmail attempts of Barb Reiber, who discovered the baby switch. Eventually, the truth came out. Lexie tried to kidnap Isaac, but she was caught and he was returned to his real parents.
As a result of all these shenanigans, Abe finally felt he had no choice but to file for divorce. Lexie tried to convince Abe to take her back, but it was no use. One night, when she was feeling very alone, she and Brandon ended up making love, but she kept this a secret as she continued to try to win Abe back. He refused to reconsider, until she selflessly put herself in danger to help save Hope when she was kidnapped. But since Abe had believed Lexie was guilty of the kidnapping, she no longer wanted to have anything to do with him. After Lexie found out she was pregnant, however, she and Abe reconciled. They joyously welcomed baby Theo into their lives and in the process, Lexie finally split up Brandon and Sami for good.
Sami had switched the paternity test results on the hospital lab's computer, believing they indicated Brandon was the father of Lexie's baby. What she didn't know was that Lexie had ALREADY switched the results, knowing what Sami would pull. Sami hid what she knew from Brandon, but the truth eventually came out. Sami had been double-crossed, and Brandon left town.
Lexie was worried for Abe's life, fearing his job as police commander put him in danger. She talked him into leaving the force but, before he could, he was gunned down in his own front yard on the way to Theo's christening. Celeste's dire premonitions about the day came true. During her grief, Lexie had to endure the vicious murder of many other Salemites and try to raise her son alone. Eventually, it turned out that upstanding citizen Marlena had committed the murders, or at least it looked that way. Abe, along with all the other victims, was alive and well, but being kept prisoner, on a tropical island designed to look exactly like Salem.
While Abe was "dead," Lexie tentatively began a relationship with Ted, the good-looking and good-natured officer. He helped her keep it together, especially after Abe and Roman's empty coffins were exhumed and it looked as if she had pronounced people dead who were in fact still alive. Certainly Lexie's mother Celeste believed all the "victims" of the Salem Stalker were alive and well, but Lexie remained unconvinced. Of course, her opinion changed when her beloved Abe showed back up at their front door. She was thrilled to see him; unfortunately, he had been injured in the escape from Tropical Salem and slowly went blind.
Abe's blindness and impotency came between him and Lexie. He grew bitter and pushed his wife away – right into the waiting arms of Tek. As much as she tried to resist, she couldn't resist the handsome young officer. Their affair lasted for many months, long enough for Sami Brady to uncover it. She used the information against Lexie, forcing her to lie to Carrie to get her to choose Lucas over Austin. Ultimately, though, Abe found out about the affair, but not from Sami. The mysterious "gloved" hand left him a note while he was at Brady's Pub. Abe discovered Lexie and Tek 'in flagrante delicto' and, after a screaming fight, he told Lexie it was over. Lexie has tried desperately to get Abe to talk to her, but he refuses. He plans on filing for divorce and suing for custody of Theo. And the mysterious gloved hand hasn't left Lexie alone. Just when she was ready to blow Sami out of the water and expose her blackmail, she got a phone call instructing her not to do so. She's certain someone is out to get the Brady family; unfortunately, those Bradys believe Lexie may be the threat. Abe is on the case, but Lexie thinks he just wants to get back together.Lexie became a key suspect in the gloved hand crimes. In order to investigate her, Abe pretended he wanted to reconcile and the two began to "date." Lexie ended her relationship with Tek, hopeful that she and Abe could make it work. Tek discovered that the whole "reconciliation" was a ruse, but when he revealed that to Lexie, she held fast.
Finally, Abe and Lexie tried for a real reconciliation. He even stood by as she was fired from the hospital after her lie to Carrie came to light. Tek continued to beg Lexie to return to him, but she was determined to keep her vows, especially when Abe confided that he was going blind again.
Still, Tek went to Lexie for help after witnessing EJ shooting John Black. Lexie tended to John's injuries, but warned Tek to leave the scene before Abe arrived and saw them together. When Abe got to the scene of the crime, Lexie was forced to lie and say she saw the shooting. Abe was suspicious and confronted Lexie. Finally, she confessed what really happened. Abe didn't believe her and tells her their marriage is over.
Heartbroken, Lexie later met up with Tek, who wanted to get back together. Lexie refused, and they were arguing in the car when another car forced them off the road. The car crashed and Lexie and Tek went missing – presumed dead.
Many months later, Bo and Hope found a bewildered Lexie, who was being held prisoner in the tunnels beneath Salem. Lexie agreed to help Bo and the SPD investigate Stefano, but she avoided Abe, still ashamed of her past. Finally, they came face to face at the pub and had a joyous reunion. Abe's latest surgery cured his blindness and he was thrilled that he could see Lexie again.
As the Brady-DiMera feud heated up, Lexie remained an ally to the Bradys, furious at the way her family treated her. Her half-brother, Benjy, was a victim, and that scared Lexie to be even more protective of herself and her family. When Stefano had what appeared to be a stroke, Lexie agreed with EJ and Tony when they came to the decision to not try to revive him.
With her father lying in a vegetative state and no longer a threat, Lexie tried to pick up the pieces of her life. She worked to get her medical license back and was reinstated at the hospital.
Lexie has recently been named the new chief of staff at the hospital. The demands of the job are already starting to cause stress in her fragile relationship with Abe. How will Lexie cope?
