Hope Brady
A speeding car killed Hope's mom, Addie Horton Williams, as she pushed Hope's carriage out of its lethal path. Her dad, Doug, a local cabaret owner and performer, and her half-sister, Julie, who became her step-mom when Julie married Doug, raised Hope. As a teenager, Hope attended boarding school. When she came back to Salem in 1984, she was a young adult with a stubborn streak surpassed only by her need for adventure. She met her match in Bo Brady. The two fell in love but it has always been a bumpy road. On her 18th birthday, when her dad found her about to make love to Bo, Doug had a heart attack. Later that year, to protect Bo from harm, she was forced to marry corrupt DA Larry Welch but the union wasn't consummated. While caught up in the crime adventure surrounding the powerfully prisms, Bo and Hope made love for the first time in the Oak Alley plantation house after sharing their own personal "wedding of the hearts."
The following year, the duo joined ISA cohorts to chase down The Dragon who was knocking off monarchy. As a reward for capturing the bloke, Bo and Hope were given a grand wedding fit for a king and queen. Even their friends and family were flown to England.
Bo and Hope were given a grand wedding fit for a king and queen.
In 1987, after many crime-fighting adventures and the birth of their son Shawn-Douglas, Bo and Hope decided to go on a private adventure. They bought a boat and the threesome sailed away.
Later, Hope was presumed dead in a fiery explosion in 1990, but she returned to Salem (with amnesia) in 1994 as 'Gina.' At the time, Bo was engaged to Billie. But when Bo accepted the fact that this woman who called herself Gina was really his beloved Hope, Billie gracefully left town to let them re-establish their relationship. Hope was later presumed dead in an avalanche. When Bo saved her life, they embarked on a new life together.
Hope was later presumed dead in an avalanche.
Working together at the police department proved a source of tension between Bo and Hope. When Hope was suspended from the force, she spent time modeling for Titan, and she was paired with the sexy Franco Kelly. Billie's subsequent return to Salem caused even more conflict for the couple. Eventually, Hope began dating Franco. And Bo and Billie increasingly found themselves thrown together as they worked together to bring down a drug ring. Bo and Billie were forced to marry in Rome in order to make their undercover ruse convincing. After a vengeful drug dealer injected Billie with heroin, Bo nursed her through a torturous withdrawal. Billie later discovered she was pregnant with Bo's child.
Back in Salem, Bo was compelled to help Hope search for information about the years when she was held captive by Stefano. Their quest took them to New Orleans, where a jealous Billie followed them. One night in the bayou, Billie gave birth to a stillborn child she named Georgia. Unable to come to terms with her loss, Billie didn't tell anyone her child had died. After an argument with Hope in Salem, an upset Billie lost control of her car. She lied that her baby died in the ensuing accident, and she blamed Hope. This created a rift between Bo and Hope, who both felt responsible for Bo's neglect of the pregnant Billie. When the truth about Billie's miscarriage in the bayou later came to light, Bo and Hope reconciled.
However, their bliss was short-lived when Hope's past came to haunt her in the form of Stefano. Hope had traveled to Lugano, Switzerland with John Black, where she discovered that a rich woman named Lili Faversham believed her to be Princess Gina Von Amberg, her friend and frequent houseguest. Hope later learned that the real Princess Gina had died, but that Hope bore a startling resemblance to her. So convincing was this similarity that, during Hope's missing years, Stefano "turned her into" Princess Gina through brainwashing and mind control. Princess Gina had a daughter named Greta, whom Bo brought to Salem from the bayou. As it turns out, the woman caught in the explosion, which supposedly killed Hope, was Greta. Greta was amazed at how much Hope looked and acted like her mother.
Bo was compelled to help Hope search for information about the years when she was held captive by Stefano.
Bo was stunned when he proposed to Hope and, in reply, she slapped him! Little did he know that Stefano had re-activated a microchip in Hope's brain that caused her to revert to her Princess Gina persona. In Europe, Gina (and later Hope impersonating Gina) was a first-class art thief, working with Stefano. Lili Faversham's art collection was among her conquests. Princess Gina's accomplice was Stefano's mercenary, John Black. What even Stefano did not know was that Princess Gina, the love of his life, thought of John as much more than a partner in crime. As Gina, Hope had nothing but disdain for Bo Brady. She had all of Princess Gina's memories, and she wanted to reconcile with the true love of her life -- John Black!
Gina almost succeeded in getting John back, going so far as to kidnap him on his honeymoon. For this, Hope as Gina was exiled to Paris by Stefano. Meanwhile, the real Gina arrived in Salem, still hankering for John. When she couldn't get him, she turned her sites on Bo and a wedding was planned.

At the ceremony, Hope/Gina was shot and killed. At the crematorium, Lily noticed a scar on the body, proving that this was Gina, not Hope. Salemites flew to France and managed to save the real Hope, who had discovered that she was pregnant. Bo and the real Hope tried to adjust to married life and their new baby, even though Bo knew he wasn't the father. Unbeknownst to them, Stefano engineered an elaborate baby-switching scheme. Hope ended up with the wrong baby, while Lexie adopted her real baby. Hope was wracked with guilt over the fact that her baby, JT, suffered from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. That Christmas Eve, Bo and Hope exchanged vows in front of friends and family in a picture perfect ceremony.
Hope dealt with the kidnapping of JT by Glen, the baby's real father, and his successful custody battle. Then she won the custody battle against Lexie for her real baby Zack and subsequently discovered that Bo was Zack's father, not John as she had suspected. She went to Iowa to be with baby JT during a surgery and, on the way home, was kidnapped Larry Welch. He was the former district attorney of Salem who Hope had left at the altar and he had recently been released from prison. Welch was bent on revenge for what Hope had done to him and he almost got away with it. In an elaborate plan, Bo found them, but Welch disappeared, apparently dead.
Hope and Bo went back to their life, but it was difficult for her to recover. She suffered from post traumatic stress disorder and kept thinking she saw Welch. While this was going on, Colin Murphy was murdered at Victor and Nicole's New Year's Eve wedding. Hope, who had left in the middle of the evening, was convinced she was responsible. Eventually, she and Bo realized that sometimes when she thought she saw Welch, he was really there. He was still alive! He tried again to kill Hope, but Bo caught him.
After Bo grew disenchanted and quit the police force, he and Hope started a new business together as bounty hunters. They had to sell the Fancy Face in order to finance their new venture and tracked down drug dealer Vin Ramsell to Texas. They also went on a quest after a mysterious goop that the DiMera family was after. It turned out to be a powerful natural explosive and they blew it up to keep the DiMeras from getting their hands on it. Shortly thereafter, Bo and Hope were attacked and almost killed at the Basic Black fashion show. They survived, only to see some of their closest friends and family members fall victim to the Salem Stalker. They devoted all their energy to catching this murderer and both rejoined the force, where Bo was eventually made commander.
Hope was shocked when the Salem Stalker was revealed to be Marlena. She found it difficult to believe and felt that there had to be extenuating circumstances, while Bo was quick to send Marlena to jail. Marlena was soon killed in what appeared to be an escape attempt. That same night, Hope's son Shawn left town, against her wishes, only to go missing.
Of course, none of the victims of the Salem Stalker -- or the Stalker herself -- were really dead. When Hope's cousin Jennifer went looking for her husband, Hope quickly chased after her, along with Patrick Lockhart. Their plane was shot down and they also ended up in island Salem. Hope continued on her quest to find Jennifer and help her save her baby.
It wasn't long before Bo and John also made it to the island. They all worked together to escape DiMera's clutches; eventually, they succeeded, but not before Tony had blown up the island. Most of the Salemites made it home, with a special guest – Billie Reed. Before long, Bo and Billie learned their daughter Georgia, whom they believed died at birth, was really still alive. Following various clues, they set out to find her. Hope, however, believed a little more was going on. She feared Billie was still in love with Bo and that her husband had feelings for his ex-wife, as well. Hope even gave Bo an ultimatum; if anything happened to Shawn while Bo was off chasing clues, their marriage was over. Hope was amazed when Bo and Billie actually found their daughter; she was alive and well and living in Salem! And she was Abby's best friend, Chelsea Benson. Then, the most horrible thing to ever happen to Hope (or any mother), happened. Her young son Zack was killed by a hit-and-run driver. Her grief was almost unbearable; she pushed Bo away and seemed to be growing closer to Patrick. Then, to make matters even worse, she learned that Chelsea was the hit-and-run driver! And Bo had known it all along, but kept the truth from her and let her think Billie was responsible. Patrick was the one who exposed the truth. This was too much for Hope. She needed time away and (thanks to some finagling by Chelsea) decided to go to Morgan Island. Where she ran into Patrick. At first, Hope was uncertain about imposing on Patrick and staying in his cabin, but she did. And the two of them grew even closer. And, thanks to some fancy work on Chelsea's part, more estranged from Bo. Chelsea intercepted Bo's response to Hope's emailed request for a divorce; instead of refusing and saying they had to work things out, Hope believed Bo was granting the divorce. Hope through her wedding ring into the ocean and made love with Patrick. To Hope's surprise, she discovered Marlena and her new husband Alex North were also staying on the island, for their honeymoon. John Black soon followed and Hope found herself involved in trying to get Marlena away from Alex. Unfortunately, it looked as if Patrick was working on Alex's side and distraught Hope called Bo, believing momentarily that her new lover was a bad guy. Bo flew to the island and Hope learned, mistakenly, that Chelsea's trial had been moved up. But was Bo ever going to tell her?Hope flew back to Salem. She attended Chelsea's trial, where she was distraught to learn that the videotaped evidence had been tampered with, and it looked as if Bo was responsible! Chelsea was sentenced only to community service.
Not long after this, Hope learned she was pregnant. The father? Patrick! Bo was nonetheless determined to win his wife back, but she was equally as determined to go through with the divorce. The only way she could ever forgive Bo was if he could prove he was not responsible for what happened to the evidence against Chelsea.
When Patrick was arrested for Eve's murder, the evidence disk against Chelsea was found in his possession. Hope realized Bo was not responsible and forgave him. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to bring Bo and Hope back together. Chelsea continued to meddle; she sent a photo she had snapped of Bo and Billie in bed (they had not made love) to Hope. When Billie tried to explain, Hope didn't even want to hear it. She'd had enough of the lies and excuses. And Bo continued to harass Patrick, eventually getting stripped of his badge.
Patrick was exonerated of Eve's murder, but Hope was still suspicious of him. She had promised to go away with him if he dropped charges against Bo, but she was trying to get out of it. Patrick would have none of that. He kidnapped Hope, but she craftily contacted Bo. He tracked them down, and burst into the warehouse where Patrick had taken Hope, just as she went into labor. She gave birth to a baby girl and Patrick made a shocking announcement: Bo was really the baby's father!
Bo and Hope bonded with their baby girl, Ciara. Things were mellow for awhile, but now they've together taken up the cause of getting to the bottom of the Brady/DiMera feud.
Hope asks Kayla if she wants more children and Kayla confides she doesn't think Steve is fit to be a father right now.
Bo, Hope and Kayla are at the pub for Sami's award ceremony. They try unsuccessfully to reach Shawn and Belle. Marlena arrives and tells them what the kids are planning. Bo wants to stop them, but Hope agrees with Marlena: they have no choice because Philip and Victor were planning to take Claire out of the country.
After learning that Nick was "Lonely Splicer," Chelsea turns to Bo and Hope for comfort. Hope forgives Chelsea for all the pain she's caused and they bond. Bo learns that Patrick has confessed that Chelsea helped him to keep one step ahead of the cops. Bo is furious, and says he's through with Chelsea. She swears to him that Patrick is lying, but he kicks her out. Hope supports Chelsea, however, and wants Bo to forgive her. Bo is torn.
Hope goes to see Willow at the YWCA and insists she go see an Ob/Gyn. Hope and Bo will pay. She lets slip that Shawn and family may be safe. Once she's gone, Willow makes a one-way call with the news.
Willow sees EJ at Java Café and asks him for a job. Later, Billie tells EJ about Bo's refusal to install the security system. EJ thinks Bo will change his mind once someone in his neighborhood is robbed. Later, EJ offers to pay Willow big bucks if she'll break into Bo's house.
At the Penthouse Grill, Willow overhears Chelsea leave a message for Bo that she's on her way over to see him. Willow steals the hairbrush that Chelsea leaves behind in the bathroom. Chelsea goes to Bo's and, thinking no one is home, leaves a note.
Willow breaks into Bo's house and steals some jewelry. As she's leaving, she sets down a candle and the flame accidentally sets the curtains ablaze. Willow grabs the note Chelsea left and plants the hairbrush. Hope and Ciara escape from the burning house. Bo realizes the fire was not an accident. He and Billie are terrified that Chelsea is the cause of the fire.
Hope and Billie talk to Chelsea. Hope believes in her innocence re: the fire and breaks into Willow's room at the YWCA and discovers the stolen jewelry. Willow makes a run for it. Hope calls Bo with the news, but he says Chelsea is not off the hook until the DNA results come in on the hairbrush found at the scene of the crime. Chelsea makes a panicked phone call.
Philip confronts EJ on the robbery of Bo's house. EJ reveals he is trying to get SentryCell installed in Bo's house to determine Shawn's whereabouts. Philip convinces EJ to help him break into Bo's house and install it. EJ and Philip pose as electricians and install SentryCell in Bo's house.
Chelsea gets a surprise when Bo apologizes for not being a better father; he's sure the hairbrush will prove Willow is guilty of setting fire to his house. He asks Chelsea to move in with him and Hope. Meanwhile, Nick admits to Abby that he stole Chelsea's hairbrush from the lab.
At Bo and Hope's house, Marlena helps Hope get ready to move back in. Marlena reveals that Belle called. Suddenly, they realize a man is in the house, but it turns out to be someone from the P.D. searching for bugs. When Bo returns, the man hands him a bag of tiny cameras and mics, from Billie's security system. Meanwhile, Philip scans the surveillance footage and hears Marlena talking about Tinda Lau.
Bo and Hope call Belle. Hope privately tells Shawn she thinks Willow is telling the truth about the baby being his. She says she'll look after Willow until Shawn returns. Meanwhile, Bo shows Billie the remnants of her security system and she thinks Philip is to blame. Bo runs to the phone to tell Belle and Shawn to get off the island at once – Philip is on his way!
Hope visits Willow in jail and suggests she and Bo raise the baby while Willow finishes her sentence. Willow refuses and twists Hope's words so Hope leaves feeling like she's trying to steal a baby from its mother.
Chelsea has a talk with Hope and realizes she loves Nick and is ready to lose her virginity to him. She rushes off to tell him.
Chelsea comes clean with Bo about the hairbrush and later at the police station, she and Nick explain the whole story to Roman. He believes them and throws the hairbrush away across the street. Bo tells Chelsea he believes her.
Hope tells Bo she wants to investigate the Brady/ DiMera feud. Doug and Julie arrive for a warm reunion. Julie translates the letter Sami and Lucas found in Maison Blanche. It's to Stefano from his father, telling him of a woman, Colleen, whom he lost because of the Brady family. He wants his son to carry out his vendetta! They all wonder where to find info on Colleen and Santo. Hope wonders if the hidden tunnel under Doug's old place holds any answers. They plan to investigate.
Doug and Julie arrive at Bo and Hope's with the key to "Doug's Place. Once there, Bo finds a narrow shaft in the wall leading to the old tunnel and they hear a strange shriek – someone is down there! The voice in the tunnel coughs and cries for help, so Bo descends. When Hope calls out and there is no answer, she panics! Someone starts climbing up, but it's not Bo. The person wears black gloves and a ski mask, and when Hope tries to remove the mask, she's attacked. With Doug's help, Hope removes the mask to discover -- Lexie Carver! Hope asks what happened to Bo, and Lexie reports that he is dead! Lexie reveals that she hit Bo in the tunnel.
Hope climbs down and finds Bo unconscious. He wakes and they realize Stefano is behind this and search the tunnel for info on the vendetta. Hope finds a photo album with a picture of Colleen. Behind it is a key, which opens a music box. But to Bo and Hope's surprise, there is a ticking bomb inside. They've been set up!
Bo struggles to defuse the bomb and cuts one of the wires, as John descends into the tunnel to help. The bomb stops with one second left. Suddenly, it reactivates and explodes! Bo, Hope and John regain consciousness and lift a heavy shelf from Bo's leg. They realize the bomb wasn't meant to kill them, but it was a powerful warning to stop asking questions about Colleen. John suggests they call a Brady family meeting. They tell Grandpa Shawn but he blows up. Why can't they leave the feud alone?!
The Bradys have their family meeting and Sami brings in the mystery woman -- Anna Brady DiMera! Bo wires Hope as they get ready to go to the DiMera Mansion. Anna arrives for dinner with Tony. Steve startles Bo outside and reveals he drugged the dinner wine. Anna and Tony pass out and Hope sneaks in to take pictures of the letters. Stefano catches her and demands an explanation. Steve races in and claims he summoned Hope -- they are having an affair. Stefano seemingly buys it. Tony and Anna wake up and he blames Steve for playing both sides. Stefano tells Tony to let the Bradys find out who killed Colleen; the truth will devastate them.
On the Fourth of July, everyone gathers at Bo and Hope's to celebrate. Kayla convinces Grandpa Shawn to join the party and forget about Colleen for a day.
Grandpa Shawn goes to Ireland to face the past. Bo learns he has left and he and Hope decide to go after him. Bo asks Roman to talk to EJ about ending the vendetta. EJ tells Roman the only way is to get rid of Tony. Grandpa Shawn goes to his home-town church in Galway and remembers scenes from his youth, including meeting Stefano as a boy.
Bo and Hope find Grandpa Shawn. Hope tries to reach out to him by telling him about how she lost her mother at a young age. Shawn says, "but you didn't kill your mother," then refuses to explain the comment.
Bo and Hope go to the Irish church, not realizing that Andre is there, disguised as one of the nuns. An Irish boy comes in to tell them the priest is on his way. He leaves a backpack behind and Bo and Hope find a ticking toy truck inside. Bo rushes out of the church with the truck and throws it into a barrel of water, trying to defuse the "bomb." Inside, Hope opens the tabernacle to find a leather folder sealed with wax. Suddenly, Andre grabs her. Bo rushes in and Andre escapes with the folder.

Grandpa Shawn rips off his own mask and insists that Hope give it to Bo. Hope is in tears. She can't be the one to decide whether Bo or Grandpa Shawn should live. Grandpa Shawn gives his mask to Bo. Hope takes Kayla to the back of the plane where they watch Grandpa Shawn take his last breaths.
