Abe Carver

Abe was born and raised in Salem alongside his two brothers, Theo and Jonah. As a child, he wanted to become a law-enforcement officer, but his desire to uphold justice became his passion after Theo was shot and killed by a corrupt police officer. Together with Roman Brady, Abe worked for the Salem Police Department where he was dedicated to fighting crime and the evil schemes of international crime boss, Stefano DiMera.

Abe was a bachelor who was focused primarily on his career until he fell in love with Alexandra Brooks. In a bizarre twist of fate, the couple would later discover that she was Stefano DiMera's daughter! Regardless, Abe and Lexie soon married and decided to start a family. Although Abe struggled with Lexie's devotion to her father, their love for one another remained strong.

Things began to heat up for Abe when Brandon Walker arrived in Salem with a chip on his shoulder. Brandon harbored a deep resentment for Abe because of a childhood experience and vowed to destroy his life. While digging up skeletons from Abe's closet, Brandon discovered that Abe accidentally shot and paralyzed an eight-year-old boy named Larry while trying to break up a domestic dispute. Brandon tracked down Larry and convinced him to sue Abe for everything he was worth. When Abe was finally confronted by Larry, he was plagued with guilt and nearly resigned from the force.

After several unsuccessful attempts at conceiving a child, Lexie finally convinced Abe to consider adoption. They adopted baby Isaac, assuming he was the child of Stefano's alcoholic niece, Marlo. Little did Abe know, Stefano was using the baby in his latest diabolical scheme.

Little did Abe know, Stefano was using the baby in his latest diabolical scheme.

When Marlena believed that Brady was responsible for Belle's coma, Roman agreed to go after the young man, who had decided to skip town. He and Abe trailed Brady to a truck stop and when he tried to escape, Abe shot him in the back. Brady survived the shooting but sued, demanding that Roman be stripped of his job and benefits in addition to paying one million dollars in damages! At the end of the arbitration, Brady was awarded $100,000 and both Abe and Roman were allowed to keep their jobs.

Abe and Lexie grew apart over her desperation to keep baby Isaac and over her closeness to her the DiMera family. Once her true part in the baby switch came out, Abe knew their marriage was over. He could not bear her behavior and she couldn't understand why he wasn't willing to do whatever it took to keep their baby. He filed for divorce, but Lexie was desperate to renew their relationship. He was very unwilling, until she selflessly put herself in danger to help save Hope when she and Zack were kidnapped. Abe and Lexie finally reconciled and their relationship only grew stronger when she discovered she was pregnant.

Abe and Lexie were thrilled about the baby. They had tried for so long to get pregnant and so this was an even bigger blessing. They day of their baby's birth, Abe got an additional surprise. Brandon Walker was there and asked to be able to watch the birth. Abe refused, until Brandon told him the baby about to be born was his brother. Brandon is Abe's son! Abe let Brandon stay and before the young man left town, the two came together as father and son. After baby Theo's birth, Lexie became more and more uneasy about her husband's role as the police commander. She feared he would be killed and her nightmare came true when Abe was the first victim of the Salem Serial Killer, on the day of Theo's christening. Of course, Abe wasn't really dead. Like all the other victims and the killer herself, he was confined to a tropical version of Salem, courtesy of Tony DiMera. It wasn't long before their fellow Salemites discovered them there. Now, it was just a matter of getting off the island. Tony did everything in his power to keep them there, including causing a volcanic eruption, but there was no holding them there. The eruption caused a giant wave, which capsized their makeshift rafts, but the Coast Guard managed to rescue most of them. Unfortunately, Abe was injured in the rescue and after he returned to Salem and was reunited with Lexie and his family, he discovered that he was going blind. Abe did go blind and that isn't all. He also found that he was impotent. He withdrew further and further from Lexie. She tried to get him to get help, but he refused. As Abe withdrew from her, she found herself drawn into an affair with Tek. And just as Abe realized what he had done to his relationship with Lexie and wanted to make amends, he found her and Tek 'in flagrante delicto' in a cheap hotel. After a screaming fight, he told Lexie it was over. Lexie has tried to explain herself to Abe, but he wants no part of it. He plans to sue for divorce and for custody of Theo. However, now that those behind the 'thin blue line' think Lexie may be responsible for some threats to the Brady family, they're using Abe to get close to her to get information. He still loves Lexie.

At Roman's request, Abe mended fences with Lexie, pretending he wanted to reconcile – when really, he was just investigating her. Tek learned that the reconciliation was just a setup and reported to Lexie, but by that time, Abe came to realize he really did want a future with his wife. Abe stood by Lexie's side when she was fired from the hospital after her lie to Carrie came to light.

The black glove crime investigation now pointed at EJ Wells, who promptly sued Abe and the police department for harassment. Abe had no choice but to end their surveillance of him, but after learning that EJ was a DiMera, he feared there was bigger danger ahead.

At the same time, Abe learned that his eyes were rejecting the corneal transplants. He confided in Lexie only, and worried that she would be stuck taking care of him the rest of his life.

Lexie claimed to have seen EJ shoot John Black, who now lay in a coma. When Abe learned Lexie was lying about what she saw in order to cover up the fact that she was with Tek, he said their relationship was over and threw her out. Shortly thereafter, Abe learned that Lexie and Tek were in a serious car accident, and were missing and presumed dead.

Abe was overwhelmed by grief, and having a hard time dealing with the stress of his failing eyesight. Celeste moved in to help him care for Theo, and he underwent surgery to restore his sight. Months later, Abe learned that Lexie was alive and had been held prisoner in the tunnels under the city. He was hurt that she had not come to see him, but when he ran into her at the Brady Pub, she confessed she was afraid to face him. Abe stunned her with the news that he could see again, and that he wanted to reconcile and start over.

As the couple slowly put their life back together, Abe was busier than ever with work. He lead investigations into the hit-and-run of John Black, the shooting of EJ Wells and the kidnapping of Claire Brady.

Lately, Abe's caseload shows no sign of slowing, especially as the tension at the shipyards increases. Lexie is back at the hospital – now as the chief of staff and dealing with major time demands too. Will they ever find the time to fully heal their relationship? Or will the stress drive them apart?
